Spotting Manipulated Mobile Banking Receipts: A Visual Guide

The Growing Menace of Fake Payment Proofs

For micro and small online merchants selling via WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok Shop, Cash-on-Delivery and manual bank transfer receipts remain common payment methods. Unfortunately, scammers utilize dedicated mobile applications that generate photorealistic fake transfer confirmation screens.

4 Tell-Tale Signs of a Forged Slip

  1. Font Inconsistencies & Anti-Aliasing Mismatch Official banking applications (BCA, Mandiri, BRI, DBS, Maybank) use system typography with strict anti-aliasing. Fake receipts generated by overlay editors often show blurriness or compression artifacts around the transfer amount, while the background remains sharp.

  2. Incoherent Timestamp and Reference IDs Most banks encode the transaction timestamp directly into the reference number (e.g. TRX-20261001-XXXX). In forged receipts, the visible time frequently contradicts the sequence code.

  3. Clashing Alignment & Kerning Noticeable irregularities in letter spacing (kerning) or digit alignment almost always point to text manipulation.

  4. Absence of Mutation in Account Ledger Never dispatch goods purely based on an incoming image receipt. Always verify actual ledger credit via your banking dashboard or Nosè’s rapid verification tool.
